BMERM Programme 2013: Call for Applications

The Structured PhD Programme in Biomedical Engineering and Regenerative Medicine (BMERM) is an innovative multi-disciplinary, multi-partner PhD programme, combining world-class research (leading to the thesis) and a comprehensive didactic and experiential learning component. Research is performed in one of the following themes: Functional Biomaterials; Biomechanics and Mechanobiology; Bioelectronics and Rehabilitation Engineering; Regenerative Therapeutics (Orthobiologics, Neurotherapeutics, Cardiovascular Therapeutics). OsteoAnchor Technology Makes the News!

OsteoAnchor is a new type of surface architecture for improving the lifespan for patients of cementless orthopaedic implants, such as hip and knee replacements. It has been developed over the last 4 years by Dr. Pat Mc Donnell and Dr. Noel Harrison who work in the Commercialisation Research Office at BMEC, NUI Galway. click here for full story!

Success for NUI Galway Students in the Ireland Fund Business Plan Competition

Four NUI Galway PhD students Paul Lohan, Ana Cimpian, Sean Gaynard and Fiona Griffin, reached the final of the Ireland Fund Business Plan competition held at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Tuesday, 19 June, 2012.

Two Biomedical Engineering researchers and a lecturer from the Department of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering have been awarded prizes for their research presentations at the Annual Bioengineering in Ireland (BINI) conference held on 27 January 2012.

NUI Galway Biomedical Engineering Student wins the prestigious Engineers Ireland Innovative Student Engineer Award for her final year project

Fiona Griffin, an Undergraduate student in Biomedical Engineering at NUI Galway, has won first prize in the Innovative Student Engineer Awards 2011.

Highest Academic Honour for Biomedical Engineering Professor

Professor Peter McHugh of NUI Galway has been elected to membership of The Royal Irish Academy (RIA) in recognition of his academic achievement in education and research in the field of biomechanics.
